Western Sydney Local Active Partnerships
Following the White Paper “Tackling Inactivity and Inequity in Western Sydney: A Systems Approach”, co-authored with the Centre for Western Sydney at Western Sydney University, we are advancing our efforts by forming Local Active Partnerships at the LGA level. These partnerships aim to foster local networks and drive place-based solutions that enable more active lives.
We are aiming to establish 13 Local Active Partnerships (LAPs) across the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Western Sydney including:
Blacktown
Blue Mountains
Camden
Campbelltown
Canterbury-Bankstown
Cumberland
Fairfield
Hawkesbury
Liverpool
Parramatta
Penrith
The Hills Shire
Wollondilly
By fostering 13 interconnected LAPs, Western Sydney will benefit from a unified yet locally relevant approach to tackling inactivity and health inequity.
What are Local Active Partnerships?
Local Active Partnerships (LAPs) are place-based networks that unite local organisations, community groups, and stakeholders under a shared vision: to make movement, physical activity, and sport accessible and inclusive for everyone. Each LAP is tailored to the unique needs, challenges, and opportunities within its respective LGA, ensuring that strategies and solutions are community-led and impactful.
How Local Active Partnerships Work
-
Convene key stakeholders, including local councils, health providers, schools, businesses, community organisations, and sports clubs.
-
Build strong relationships and shared goals that drive collective action and community ownership.
-
Conduct research and community engagement to understand the unique needs, barriers, and opportunities in each LGA.
-
Design and deliver programs that reflect the local context, focusing on inclusion, sustainability, and measurable impact.
-
Leverage partnerships to attract investment and ensure long-term success.
-
Evaluate progress using data and stories to ensure continuous improvement and accountability.
